
The event was started with the popular breaking of the barrel of sake and a toast among those present. “I wish more prosperity to the Nikkei community in Brazil and closer ties between Brazil and Japan,” said the ambassador, saying he was happy to be celebrating the New Year.

During the shinnenkai there was also the awarding ceremony of the Order of the Rising Sun, an honor given in the name of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan to those who have made remarkable achievements in the areas of international relations and promotion of Japanese culture. Minoru Takahashi, president of the club of the elderly of the Brazilian-Brazilian Cultural Society of Brasilia, was honored; Tae Suzuki, former professor of culture and Japanese language at USP and UnB; and Waldemar Hiroshi Umeda, president of the Nipo-Brazilian Sports and Recreation Cultural Association of DF
Expressing my sincere reverence for the contributions of the three decorated members, I wish them even more success,” said the ambassador, before beginning the ceremony. The insignia has been granted by the Japanese government since 1875.
Reception – The celebration also included a lunch prepared under the command of the chef of the official residence, Kazumine Nohara. On the menu were traditional dishes like tempura, sushi, yakissoba, tonkatsu and zoni, a traditionally consumed New Year’s soup with rice dumpling (mochi).
Guests were also able to enjoy freshly prepared sushi by chef Cristiano Komiya from the New Koto restaurant. And since it is already a tradition of embassy events, it was offered to those present a tasting of imported brands of authentic Japanese sake.
At the end of the event, special gifts were distributed to Osaka World Expo, the great world fair to be held in Japan in 2025.
History – Shinnenkai (Japanese, 新年 会, New Year welcome) is the Japanese tradition of welcoming the arrival of the New Year, usually by drinking alcohol. A Shinnenkai is usually celebrated among co-workers or friends, in the month of January.

O evento foi iniciado com a popular quebra do barril de saquê e um brinde entre os presentes. “Desejo mais prosperidade à comunidade nikkei no Brasil e maior estreitamento da relação entre Brasil e Japão”, discursou o embaixador dizendo-se feliz por estarem celebrando junto o Ano Novo.

“Expressando a minha sincera reverência às contribuições dos três condecorados, desejo-lhes ainda mais sucessos”, afirmou o embaixador, antes de iniciar o agraciamento. A insígnia é concedida pelo governo japonês desde 1875.

Os convidados também puderam saborear sushi preparado na hora pelo chef Cristiano Komiya, do restaurante New Koto. E como já é tradição dos eventos da embaixada, foi oferecida aos presentes uma degustação de marcas importadas do autêntico saquê japonês.
Ao final do evento, foram distribuídos brindes exclusivos da Osaka World Expo, a grande feira mundial que será realizada no Japão em 2025.
