It was officially inaugurated by then President Juscelino Kubitschek as a work of art, Brasília boasts a unique layout designed by urban planner Lucio Costa, an exuberant architecture by Oscar Niemeyer, and an inimitable tropical landscaping by Roberto Burle Marx. It is a perfect example of how arts can become public and successfully integrated into the urban scene. The city displays works by artists such as Athos Bulcão, Mariane Peretti, Bruno Giorgi and Alfredo Ceschiatti.
Curated by Danielle Athayde, the exhibition conveys Brasília’s urban and architectural designs in detail with approximately 300 works, including sculptures, paintings, photographs, and historic documents. The collection presents ideas, characters and historical paths that led to the creation of Brasilia – a reflection of Brazilian Modernism. The show also pays tribute to Brasília’s 60th anniversary, to be celebrated in 2020.
The Embassy of Brazil, with the generous support of the Government of the Federal District, will be hosting Brasília: From Utopia to Capital from 31 July to 30 August. The exhibition will be open to the public Tuesday to Sunday from 11AM to 6PM. Free admission.
